26 Weeks
And a doctor's visit...
26 October 2004 19:34

How your baby's growing: Your baby now weighs a little under 2 pounds and measures about 14 inches, from head to heel. The nerve pathways in her ears are developing, which means her response to sounds is growing more consistent. Her lungs are developing now, too, as she continues to take small breaths of amniotic fluid — good practice for when she's born and takes that first breath of air. If you're having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take about two to three days. (more)

25 Weeks!
19 October 2004 18:17

How your baby's growing: Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. His weight — a pound and a half — doesn't sound like much, but he's beginning to exchange his long, lean look for some baby fat. As he does, his wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and he'll start to look more and more like a newborn. His hair is probably recognizable now (in color and texture), although both may change after he's born. (more)

I'll say it again...
I *LOVE* Once Upon A Child!!!
15 October 2004 23:25

I've been meaning to do some baby stuff "hunting" for awhile, but it's not really Geof's thing... so I needed to find a day when I could go into the city on my own (read: he wouldn't need the car) so that he wouldn't get dragged to all these little stops while I bargain hunt.

I love to bargain hunt!

I made a few other stops on the way to Once Upon A Child... ToysRUs for a changing table pad (and I think I found our crib!), the mall for a new candle at Yankee Candle (only to find out they sent coupons recently, so I'll wait to get that before purchasing), and then to the wonderland that is OUAC. 24 Weeks!!!!
12 October 2004 18:09

How your baby's growing: Your baby's growing steadily, gaining about a quarter of a pound since last week, when she was just over a pound. Since she's almost a foot long, that makes a pretty lean figure, but her body is filling out proportionally and she'll soon put on more baby fat. Your baby's skin is thin, translucent, and wrinkled, her brain is growing rapidly, and her taste buds are developing. Her lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" and cells that produce surfactant, a substance that helps the air sacs inflate easily. (more)

23 Weeks
and a photo, too
07 October 2004 20:30

How your baby's growing: Your baby is more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound. His skin is red and wrinkled. Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare him for breathing. He can swallow, but he normally won't pass his first stool (called meconium) until after birth. Feeling pretty good? Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed now, your baby can feel you dance. Those dainty fetal movements have progressed to karate kicks. You may even be able to see your baby squirm underneath your clothing. Loud noises heard often in utero — such as your dog barking or the roar of a vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze your baby when he hears them outside the womb. (more)

Call it "pregnesia"

When I did my update about our time in Chicago, I forgot to mention that my family threw a baby shower for our little one (thanks for reminding me, Laura). We had such a great time with them, and they really went out of their way to put the party together for us. I didn't leave it out of the Chicago entry on purpose... it's something that I remembered after posting the entry and just forgot to go back to edit the post. Thanks, everyone, and the real thank you notes will be sent out as soon as they are unpacked. I'll also ask Geof to post some pictures in the albums from the shower in the coming week.

The 23 week update will be done tomorrow. We just got back from the district pastors' conference, and we're exhausted - but some sleep will do both of us well.

A Little Explanation of the Site(s)
16 October 2004 00:05

You will see in the top right corner of (most) of the journal entries something that looks like this (colors not withstanding):

+ 0 - 0 | § œ
Well, here's what those things mean, in case you wanted to know:
  • + 0: You can click on the plus sign to vote "good" on the post. This is part of what many journals call a karma system. It will simply let others know if visitors thought the post was a good post. The number will indicate the number of "good" votes the post has received.
  • - 0: This works the same as the "+ 0" except it means a vote of "bad."
  • §: The "section" symbol serves as a link to the journal entry in the archives. Basically, it lets you go the section of the archives in which that article is found. For instance, if you click on the § in a journal article dated 30 September 2004, you would see all the entries from the September archives for that journal and all related journals which are archived together (i.e., Baby Polls, Mommy Log, and Daddy Log; or Atlantis, Link Dump, and Here's Your Sign).
  • œ: The "paragraph" symbol serves as a link to just that entry. If you clicked that link, you would be able to read the full entry in the current window (as opposed to a pop-up window).

So, there you have it. That is, in case you were wondering...

Raising a child (and preparing to raise a child) is expensive. Now, I don't want to make this sound like a plea for aid, but I know how generous people can be. Anyone wishing to share their generosity with us is welcome. We accept gifts through PayPal. If you would like to snail mail us, contact us for our mailing address.
Thanks to everyone for well wishes and prayers!
