31 Weeks
30 November 2004 16:54

How your baby's growing: This week, your baby measures about 16 inches long. He weighs a little over 3 pounds and is headed for a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and he's beginning to accumulate a layer of fat underneath his skin in preparation for life as a newborn. As a result, his arms, legs, and body are filling out. (more)

30 Weeks!!!
Only 10 weeks to go!!!
23 November 2004 23:02

How your baby's growing: Your baby's a bit more than 15 1/2 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds. A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and fills out your uterus. Her eyes open and close, she's able to distinguish between light and dark, and she can even follow a light source back and forth. Once she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have a visual acuity of only 20/400 — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. ("Normal" vision in adults is 20/20.) (more)

29 Weeks
16 November 2004 17:47

How your baby's growing: Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to accommodate his brain — which is busy developing billions of neurons. With this rapid growth, it's no surprise that your baby's nutritional needs reach their peak during this trimester. To keep yourself and him well nourished, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamin C, folic acid, iron, and calcium. (About 200 milligrams of calcium is deposited in your baby's skeleton — which is now hardening — every day.) (more)

Second verse, same as the first
11 November 2004 13:49

Well... almost - add back pain, too. Last night was a repeat of Monday night - so now I'm no longer thinking it was food poisoning. I called the doctor's office this morning and have already been there and tested for gallbladder problems. The urine test pretty much ruled it out, and the "stomach manipulation" that the doctor did definitely did. I'm not in any pain (anymore) where my gallbladder is located - at all - so we're in wait and see mode to see if this happens again.

However, I've gotten emails from three friends who read the last post saying it sounded just like their gallbladder attacks during pregnancy/after delivery.

Anyway, I'm going to try and get some sleep now - I didn't get much last night at all. But the good news is that the glucose test results are in and fine - so go pancreas go!

In the meantime, Geof and I have grounded Wags - s/he's not allowed to leave the womb for the next couple of months ;)

GTT test and a bad night
09 November 2004 19:21

How your baby's growing: By this week, your baby weighs a little over 2 pounds and measures about 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can open her eyes — which now sport lashes — and she'll turn her head toward a continuous, bright light from the outside. Her fat layers are beginning to form, too, as she gets ready for life outside the womb. (more)

27 Weeks... it's 3rd Trimester!!!!
And making new friends...
02 November 2004 18:30

How your baby's growing: Your baby is really starting to fill up your uterus. This week he weighs almost 2 pounds and is about 14.4 inches long with his legs extended. He can now open and close his eyes, and he sleeps and wakes at regular intervals. He may suck his fingers, and although his lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with assistance — if he were to be born prematurely. Chalk up any rhythmic movement you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and isn't bothersome to him, so enjoy the tickle. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. Wonder what he's thinking? Strange Things
22 November 2004 12:08

I can't explain why, but when you leave a comment from one of the three (four actually) journals--Atlantis, Atlantis Mobile, or Wags the Journal (the fourth is a list for my personal page)--the resulting page picks a template from one of the other journals. Unfortunately, my knowledge of PHP is not good enough right now to figure out how to fix it.

The journals function normally otherwise, so go ahead and leave your comments, they'll be placed appropriately, you'll just see them in the wrong templates at first.

Ahhh, the Power of...Garlic!
16 November 2004 17:39

It's a shame, really. It's just not fair.

Daddy loves garlic. Next to peanut butter, it's a staple food. It's an ingredient almost everything we cook (yeah, that's exaggerating things, but the point holds).

Mommy loves garlic. The flavor is great in Italian AND Mexican foods. Daddy's "sketti" sauce just wouldn't be the same without it.

But then there's the aroma! Ever since Wags started developing, the smell of garlic makes mommy not feel so good. Yesterday must have been hell...at times, it looked like it. Daddy made "sketti" sauce, and the stuff simmers all day. So, the house "reeked" of garlic.

Like mommy said, come quickly, child, but only when you're ready.

Boo hoo...tacos do the same things...

Oh, What a Night
09 November 2004 22:30

I hate seeing the ones I love in pain. Last night was not a fun night for me. It all started okay and seemed on a course that would have it end that way. It ended about 3 hours after it was supposed to. (more)

Izzit a Boy or A Girl?
02 November 2004 11:27

I wonder this quite often. And I can't help but think about it either. I flip-flop on it about as often as some political candidates do (*ahem*Kerry*ahem*). (more)
