Congratulations! Your pregnancy is now considered full term meaning your baby is developmentally ready to handle life outside the womb. (Babies born before 37 weeks are pre-term and those born after 42 weeks are post-term.) Your baby probably weighs a little over 6 pounds at this point and measures between 19 and 20 inches, head to heel.

Many babies have a full head of hair at birth, with locks from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long. But don't be surprised if your baby's hair isn't the same color as yours. Dark-haired couples are sometimes thrown for a loop when their children are born blonds or redheads, and fair-haired couples have been surprised by Elvis look-alikes. And then, of course, some babies sport only peach fuzz.

How your life's changing: The next couple of weeks are a waiting game. Use this time to prepare your baby's nursery or to take care of tasks you may not get around to for a while after your baby's born. Take naps and catch up on your reading while you can.

Have you noticed an increase in the frequency or vividness of dreams lately? Anxiety about becoming a parent can fuel a lot of strange pregnancy dreams.

You may be getting a lot more Braxton Hicks contractions now, and they may last longer and be more uncomfortable. Sometimes when they start to come frequently you may even think you're in labor. You might also notice an increase in mucus discharge from your vagina. If you see some "bloody show" (the mucus plug tinged with a tiny amount of blood), labor is probably right around the corner! (If you have other spotting or bleeding, call your caregiver immediately.)

Really, how much info do people *really* want to read in this thing =) I've only had one strange dream that could even remotely be connected to pregnancy this last week... and it was just a "all the strange things that happened during the day that could be linked together" dream... so I'm not worried about that at all.

I did have a "bout" of contractions last Saturday to Sunday - lasting about 16 hours - but they were nothing regular at all... so I thought nothing of it. They are getting stronger than the Braxton Hicks ones that I've had, but they aren't regular or lasting long (maybe 30 seconds) - so it's not time yet. And, yes, other "discharge" has picked up some... I'm sure that's what you all wanted to know around dinner time, right =)

At the doctor's... I've decided that I'm not going to go by the weight given at the Sioux Falls office - because each time I go there they say I'm up... then I go to Salem (where I've been for most of my appointments) and they say I'm down. So I'll chalk that up to different scales. Baby is now measuring 40 cm - up 2 from last week. Dr. Peters says she tells moms that once they hit 40, they can be done whenever. Wags' heart rate is still about 140 - good and strong. From my internal exam, I'm not dilated, but she could feel the baby (and was 98% sure it was a head she felt) - so baby has dropped even lower... a good thing. Well, except for when Wags' head-butts my cervix - not such a pleasant thing, but helpful in the whole process.

We have our hospital bag packed - and it's staying in the car now. We're both getting excited. I belong to an online community, and two of my friends there have been pregnant along with me - one was due 12/26 (and had the baby 12/29) and the other was due 1/9 (and had the baby this morning)... so now it's really setting in that I'm next =) Really, we're ready to go (well, except that middle name thing... blah). Yay!!!
