Fun times
30 September 2004 13:54

As you read in Geof's entry the other day, baby has been kicking up a storm lately. Well, as of last night, during Wags' most active times, baby now actually makes my stomach move and bounce! It's really funny when Patches is on my lap and the baby does this - she gets this look somewhere between "what the!" and "leave me alone."

22 Weeks...
28 September 2004 17:09

How your baby's growing: Your baby now looks like a miniature newborn, checking in at 10.9 inches and almost 1 pound. Her skin will continue to appear wrinkled until she gains enough weight to fill it out, and the fine hair (lanugo) that covers her head and body is now visible. Her lips are becoming more distinct, and the first signs of teeth are appearing as buds beneath her gum line. Her eyes are developed, though the iris (the colored part of the eye) still lacks pigment. Eyelids and eyebrows are in place, and her pancreas, essential for hormone production, is developing steadily. (more)

21 Weeks (really late) and a Doctor's Appointment
22 Weeks will still post tomorrow
27 September 2004 22:34

How your baby's growing: Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long. His eyebrows and eyelids are fully developed. And you can certainly feel him move. You may soon feel like he's practicing martial arts as his initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to his activity as you get to know him better. Some babies are restless in the evening, for example, just as you're trying to fall asleep. Others get busy during the day. He's oblivious to your schedule, though, so don't be surprised if he starts working out just when you're settling down for the night. If you're having a girl, her vagina is formed now, though it will continue to develop until birth. (more)

20 Weeks!!!
Halfway done, halfway done, la la la la la...
14 September 2004 17:57

How your baby's growing: Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. She's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom (about the size of a large sweet potato), and about 10 inches from head to heel. (For the first 20 weeks, we use measurements taken from the top of the baby's head to her bottom known as the "crown to rump" measurement. After that, we use measurements from head to toe. (This is because a baby's legs are curled up against her torso during the first half of pregnancy and are very hard to measure.) (more)

Picture time...
10 September 2004 18:54

Well, here they are... pictures of Wags' room all painted now. The room is only about 10X11, so it's hard to get full wall shots, but you'll get the general idea... (more)

Happy Day!!!!
09 September 2004 18:06

The baby's room is done!
The baby's room is done!
The baby's room is done!

Did I mention... never mind.

I should clarify, the PAINTING of the baby's room is done, but this was really important and needed to get done within the next day or so. We leave for Chicago in a week, and the majority of the furniture that we're bringing back is going in that room - so having that done is a load off my mind. We'll get some pictures taken in the next day or so and get them posted... don't worry!

Now to get the rest of the house ready for our departure!

19 Weeks!!!
Almost half-way there
07 September 2004 18:37

How your baby's growing: Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces, and he measures 6 inches, head to bottom about the length of a small zucchini. His arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of his body now. (more)

One, Two (Three?) Punch
05 September 2004 23:15

One, Two (Three?) Punch

Hurricanes Charley and Frances have devasted much of my former home state. I still have close ties to Florida, as much of my family still lives there. This may go down as the most expensive one-two hurricane punch of all time. Charley's abnormal course and Frances' slow movement aided in this.

What concerns many people, including myself, is that a third punch is waiting in the wings. Hurricane Ivan is in the Atlantic and is projected to make its way toward Florida. By the time it reaches the Peninsula, the experts predict it will be a category 4 hurricane. It is predicted to impact the Bahamas and Florida at about the same places as Frances has/is.

There's something we can do to help. Cleanup and repair cost money. Housing the homeless victims costs money. Feeding those who have no power costs money. You can donate. Please, find a way you can lend your aid. If you're in the area or close, pitch in with some man hours, if you can spare some. If you have the financial means, donate through whichever organization you wish. In any case, lend your moral support and pray.

My suggestion for financial support should be directed to LCMS World Relief's Hurricane Charley Fund. Information in that link will give several options for sending money in order to aid Bahamans and Floridians in relief and recovery from these two (three?) storms. Please consider a donation if you are able.

Raising a child (and preparing to raise a child) is expensive. Now, I don't want to make this sound like a plea for aid, but I know how generous people can be. Anyone wishing to share their generosity with us is welcome. We accept gifts through PayPal. If you would like to snail mail us, contact us for our mailing address.
Thanks to everyone for well wishes and prayers!
